The future of Northern Support Services (NSS) has been secured following a merger with leading Geelong disability, employment and aged care service provider genU.

The NSS Board recently undertook an extensive search for an amalgamation partner due to increasing pressures on the Northcote-based community services organisation from the pricing impact of transitioning to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

NSS members voted to approve the merger with genU at a special meeting, and NSS clients, families and carers will continue to receive the highest levels of service from genU from 1 June 2019.

NSS Chair Debora Jackson said the merger secured the sustainability of NSS offerings in employment, training and disability.

“The successful union of our organisations will lead to NSS clients, families and carers continuing to receive the best supports possible for their individual needs,” Debora said.

“The merger will also introduce new opportunities and services NSS could not have delivered on its own.”

genU has a 65 year history of advocating for and improving the lives of people with disability, ageing Australians, job seekers, and disadvantaged groups.

CEO Mike McKinstry said genU would make the transition as seamless as possible for NSS staff, clients and families.

“We’re two very similar organisations in terms of our values and philosophies, so we’re excited to get to work and keep up the proud tradition of service excellence NSS has established,” Mike said.
