Employ@ability
The Employ@ability program currently provides opportunities to people who have an intellectual disability to seek training placement and support in the open or competitive arena as well as through “Business Services” also known as Supported Employment.
The main aim of the program is to develop a sustainable employment model through building partnerships with community agencies, employment services and large and small businesses.
It is managed by a group of four leading organisations that currently provide support to people with disabilities in the North and West region of Melbourne. The program was originally developed in partnership with the Department of Human Services. The four agencies are Northern Support Services (NSS), Araluen, LaTrobe Life Skills and the Ivanhoe/Diamond Valley Centre.
The aim of the program is to
- Provide clients within the day services programs sector who wish to gain employment, an opportunity to do so by the provision of intensive support via the project
- Job match project participants skills and interests to job opportunities where possible
- Support clients into identified employment options
- Provide “on the job” training until competency is attained and production and quality standards are met
- Assist job seekers to identify and access community resources and services
- Maximise employment retention through the provision of on going support after employment is attained

- Career counselling
- Consultation & access to specialists training organisations to develop appropriate skills for job requirements
- Job search assistance
- Resume preparation
- Interview techniques & assistance during interviews
- Mobility training
- Orientation/induction to the job site & all tasks and requirements
- On the job training & support at no cost to the employer
- Occupational health & safety training
- Workplace modification if required at no cost to the employer
